After some vehicles complete the painting and baking processes in the spray paint booth, paint spots may appear on the vehicle body surface. Upon careful inspection, these spots are actually dust particles encapsulated by the paint. Once such a situation occurs, it indicates that there is a large amount of dust in the air inside the spray paint booth. To ensure the quality of painting, the following aspects need to be focused on:
1. Control of Air Pollution Sources: The air entering the spray paint booth is the main source of pollutants. When the spray paint booth is not in use, the door must be kept closed, and it is strictly prohibited to leave the door open for a long time. Many auto repair shops often arrange the putty grinding work in an area close to the spray paint booth, and this process generates a large amount of dust. Putty dust and other particles can easily enter the paint booth with the air flow. If dust - free dry grinding technology is used for putty grinding, the pollution situation will improve to some extent; while manual grinding methods will lead to serious pollution. Therefore, the putty grinding work in auto repair shops should be carried out in an area far from the spray paint booth.
2. Maintenance of Ventilation and Filtration System: When the spray paint booth is in operation, the ventilation fan draws in air from the outside. The air is blown downward through the filter cotton on the roof of the paint booth and then discharged from the floor of the paint booth. This creates a downward air flow inside the paint booth, ensuring that even a small amount of dust will not suspend in the air. The filter cotton on the roof of the paint booth can filter out most of the dust, ensuring the cleanliness of the air entering the paint booth. Therefore, the filter cotton on the roof and the adsorption cotton on the floor of the paint booth need to be replaced regularly.
3. Vehicle Cleaning: The vehicle to be painted is usually the largest source of pollution inside the spray paint booth. A large amount of pollutants can accumulate on the wheels, bumpers, and engine compartments. Conducting a comprehensive and thorough cleaning of the vehicle can effectively reduce the adverse effects of these pollutants on the painting operation. So, it is extremely crucial to do a good job in pre - painting preparations such as vehicle cleaning.
4. Standardization of Personnel Clothing: The work clothes of painting operators are also an important source of pollution. In many auto repair shops, the putty grinding and painting work are carried out by the same person, and many workers wear the same set of work clothes for both tasks, which is incorrect. Special work clothes should be provided for painting operations. Inside the paint booth, operators need to wear non - linting work clothes, rubber gloves, protective masks, and respirators, and maintain this attire when spraying each layer of paint. Personnel not wearing special work clothes are strictly prohibited from entering the paint booth and can only observe the painting operation from the viewing window to avoid contaminating the paint.
5. Rational Arrangement of Work Areas: Except for the necessary work such as covering the vehicle and painting that must be completed inside the paint booth, other body preparation work and paint mixing should be done outside the paint booth. Some auto repair shops even clean vehicles or grind putty inside the paint booth, which seriously violates the paint repair operation specifications.
6. Keeping Spraying Equipment Clean: Spraying equipment such as spray guns must be kept clean at all times. After each painting operation, the spray gun should be cleaned in a timely manner to prevent the paint inside from drying. If the paint dries and forms lumps, these lumps may fly out during spraying and form defects on the paint surface.
7. Timely Cleaning of the Paint Booth: After each painting job is completed, the floor and walls of the paint booth need to be swept clean, and the coverings used to cover the vehicle should be cleared away. Disposable coverings should be used to cover the vehicle during painting, and cotton coverings for cars and wheel covers should be avoided as they tend to collect dust.
8. Proper Storage of Items: There should be no sundries such as parts and paint cans in the paint booth, as these items can accumulate dirt and ultimately contaminate the vehicle to be painted. Spray guns, masking tape, putty, car covers, and work clothes should not be stored in an open environment; these items should all be kept in enclosed and ventilated storage rooms.
In conclusion, to ensure the quality of automotive painting, careful maintenance of the environment inside the paint booth and strict compliance with operating specifications are extremely necessary.
