Spray Paint Booth Precautions

Dec 10, 2024

Some vehicles may have paint speckles on the surface after being painted and baked in thespray paint booth. Upon close inspection, these are dust particles encapsulated by the paint. When this occurs, it indicates that there is a significant amount of dust in the air within thespray paint booth.

1. The air entering thespray paint booth is the primary source of pollutants. The doors of thespray paint booth should be kept closed when not in use, and it is strictly forbidden to leave the doors open for extended periods. In many repair shops, the grinding work for putty is often carried out in areas close to thespray paint booth, and this process generates a large amount of dust. A significant amount of putty dust and other particles can easily enter thespray paint booth with the flow of air. If dust-free dry grinding technology is used for putty grinding, the situation will be relatively better. If manual grinding methods are used, the pollution will be very serious. Therefore, putty grinding work in repair shops should be carried out in areas far from thespray paint booth.

2. When thespray paint booth is operating, the ventilation fan draws in air from the outside, which is blown downward through the filter cotton on the roof of thespray paint booth, and the air is extracted from the floor of thespray paint booth. This creates a downward airflow within thespray paint booth, ensuring that even if there is a small amount of dust, it will not be suspended in the air. The filter cotton on the roof of thespray paint booth can filter out most of the dust, thus maintaining the cleanliness of the air entering thespray paint booth. Therefore, the filter cotton on the roof and the adsorption cotton on the floor of thespray paint booth should be replaced regularly.

3. The vehicle to be painted is usually the largest source of pollution within thespray paint booth. Wheels, bumpers, and engine compartments can accumulate a large amount of pollutants, and thorough vehicle cleaning can reduce the impact of these pollutants on the painting operation. Therefore, good preparatory work such as vehicle cleaning is very important.

4. The work clothes worn by painting operators are also an important source of pollution. In many repair shops, the same person completes both the putty grinding and paint spraying work, and many workers wear the same set of work clothes for both tasks, which is incorrect. There should be dedicated work clothes for paint spraying. In thespray paint booth, one should wear non-linting work clothes, rubber gloves, protective masks, and respirators, and maintain this attire when spraying each layer of paint. Personnel not wearing dedicated work clothes are strictly prohibited from entering thespray paint booth and can only observe the painting operation from the viewing window to avoid contaminating the paint.

5. Except for the necessary work such as covering the vehicle and spraying that must be completed inside thespray paint booth, other body preparation work and paint mixing should be done outside thespray paint booth. Some repair shops even clean vehicles or grind putty inside thespray paint booth, which is a serious violation of paint repair operation specifications.

6. Spraying equipment such as spray guns must be kept clean. Spray guns should be cleaned promptly after each painting operation to prevent the paint inside from drying. If the paint dries and forms clumps, these clumps can fly out during spraying and form defects on the paint surface.

7. After each painting job is completed, the floor and walls of thespray paint booth should be swept clean, and coverings used to cover the vehicle should be cleared away. Disposable coverings should be used to cover the vehicle during painting, and cotton coverings for cars and wheel covers should be avoided as they tend to collect dust.

8. Thespray paint booth should not contain sundries such as parts and paint cans, as these items can accumulate dirt and ultimately pollute the vehicle to be painted. Spray guns, paper tape, putty, car covers, and work clothes should not be stored in an open environment; these items should all be kept in enclosed and ventilated storage rooms.

In summary, to ensure the quality of car paint spraying, the maintenance of the environment inside thespray paint booth and strict operation specifications are very necessary.
