What is the function of a refrigerant recovery machine?

Oct 10, 2024

Generally, refrigerant recovery machine have the following functions: they can meet the daily maintenance needs of air conditioners, namely, recycling, purification, vacuuming and filling. The recycling function of the refrigerant recovery machine should be able to collect the refrigerant R12 or R134a in the car air conditioner. The purification function of the  refrigerant recovery machine  is to use a dry filter to treat the refrigerant extracted from the air conditioning system to remove impurities such as solid particles, refrigeration oil, moisture and air, so that it can be reused. This function is also called regeneration. The vacuuming function of the refrigerant recovery machine is to completely extract the air and moisture in the air conditioning system. The filling function is to rely on technologies such as electronic metering systems or weighing sensors to achieve quantitative filling of refrigerants. This process can also be manually operated to meet the different needs of the refrigerant recovery machine.

Some special operations of the refrigerant recovery machine and filling machine. The use of the refrigerant recovery machine and filling machine is not complicated. Generally, as long as the operation is carried out according to the requirements of the manual, the basic problems in air conditioning maintenance work can be solved. Maintenance technicians must ensure the quality of maintenance and ensure that the air conditioning maintenance equipment can operate normally. For some relatively special operations, they also need to pay attention.

(1) Replacement and recycling of desiccant

After a certain period of use, the desiccant will lose its drying effect due to excessive moisture, which will make some functions of the refrigerant recovery machine and filling machine inoperable. At this time, the desiccant needs to be replaced or dehydrated. After removing the baffle, draining the waste oil and air-conditioning refrigerant, loosen the fastening bolts, remove the flange and replace the desiccant. Be careful not to put the original desiccant into the microwave to heat and dehumidify it before reusing it.

(2) Ensure the normal operation of the recovery system

When the recovery system is working, check the amount of refrigerant in the quantitative bottle frequently. If the amount of refrigerant in the quantitative bottle is too much, the refrigerant to be recovered should be discharged into a special liquid storage cylinder set up separately to prevent equipment damage and environmental pollution.

(3) Refilling the refrigerant recovery machine's storage bottle

When the amount of refrigerant in the refill bottle is too little (not enough to fill a vehicle), refilling is required in time. There are generally two ways to refill.①Invert the external cylinder, connect it to the liquid inlet through a hose with a thimble, open the cylinder valve and press the refill switch on the device, and then refill the storage bottle through the recovery system. When the amount of refrigerant in the bottle reaches the rated standard, the device will automatically shut down.②Invert the external cylinder, connect it to the storage port through a hose with a thimble, open the cylinder valve, and then open the storage valve and the vent valve, and you can refill the quantitative bottle directly without going through the recovery system. After refilling, the cylinder valve should be closed to prevent refrigerant leakage.

Many operators lack a rigorous standard when filling refrigerant in refrigerant recovery machines. There are many irregular operations in the filling process, such as rashly turning on the car air conditioner switch during the filling process, and not controlling the refrigerant filling speed. There are two methods to choose from for filling refrigerators, and each of them has certain essentials.①Low-pressure filling method. When filling refrigerant into the car air conditioning system, as the pressure in the system increases, the filling speed will become slower and slower, or even impossible to add. At this time, the high-pressure valve can be closed to make the air conditioner run and inhale the remaining refrigerant from the low-pressure valve. It should be noted that the refrigerant filling speed from the low-pressure end should be slow to prevent "liquid shock" from damaging the compressor.②High-pressure filling method. If the refrigerant pressure in the quantitative bottle is high before filling the refrigerant, you only need to quickly open the corresponding valve to fill it. The way to make the quantitative bottle generate high pressure is to recover the refrigerant in the car air conditioner and the refrigerant in the liquid storage cylinder, and use the high temperature in the quantitative bottle at the end of the recovery to quickly fill the refrigerant. It should be noted that the air conditioner cannot operate when filling liquid refrigerant from the high-pressure end.
